This course examines micro-organisms, focusing on their relationship with human hosts, uses in pharmaceutical sciences and methods of inhibiting microbial diseases. By the completion of this course, students are expected to learn the basic features of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites and be able to understand their pathogenesis. Basic sterilization techniques, principles and equipment will also be covered as well as the mechanism of action of antimicrobial drugs and the crisis of antibiotic resistance problem.
