Supply-chain management has been defined as the "design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply-chain activities with the objective of creating net value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance globally". SCM practice draws heavily on industrial engineering, systems engineering, operations management, logistics, procurement, information technology and marketing, and strives for an integrated approach.

This graduate course in Engineering Ethics willprovide a a philosophical framework to the issues in engineering ethics. It will try to exhibit their social implications and the intellectual challenge they will impose on engineers, who have a central role to play in almost all aspects of technological development and applications. The objective will be the stimulation of reasoning in students, and introducing them to the necessary conceptual tools to induce responsible decisions and actions through out their professional life.
Engineers must hold the safety, health and welfare of the public above all other issues while performing their professional duties. Engineers must be morally dedicated and well equiped to handle the dilemmas they may face during performing their professional duties.
The course will be conducted by introducing key concepts and alternative views and illustrate these by using relevant case studies. Use of case studies help to discuss controversial subjects with the students and thus encourage responsible reasoning rather then just “spoon feding” some general ethical rules. Almost all seemingly unresolvable ethical dilemmas can be resolved, through engaged and tolerant dialogues among involved parties, based on responsible reasoning.
