In chemical terms water is a dilute solution of various compounds. It can also hold suspensions of several organic and inorganic compounds. This course is about the interactions between these compounds. To understand water pollution, and also water and wastewater related environmental engineering practices it is first necessary to have an appreciation of chemical phenomena that occur in water. Principles and applications of chemical equilibria, acid-base reactions, solubility, complex formation, and redox reactions are mainly discussed in this course.
