Course includes industrial applications of biotechnology and applications of biotechnology in environmental engineering. Microbiological treatment technologies developed at the beginning of the twentieth century, such as trickling filtration, activated sludge and anaerobic digestions remain the mainstays today. In recent years, new technologies are constantly introduced that address very contemporary problems such as detoxification of hazardous chemicals, environmental biomonitoring, and microbial genetic engineering for bioremediation of air, water, and soil.
