This course will introduce functionalist and descriptive translation theories. Translation practice will be done with operative and informative texts. Although the terms translation and interpretation are often used interchangeably, by strict definition, translation Refers to the written language, and interpretation to the spoken word.Translation is the action of interpretation of the meaning of a text, and subsequent production of an equivalent text, also called a translation, that communicates the same message in another language. Translator education is normally used to refer to the kind of instruction that students receive in the larger social contexts of universities. This kind of instruction is integral and offers students the possibility to see translation as an activity linked to societal and humanistic issues.
