This course concentrates on the basic features of Pragmatics as one of the fields of Linguistics and the relation between Pragmatics and Language Teaching. It deals with how language is used as a means of communication. The course is based on the topics of Maxims of Conversation: Quality, Quantity, Relation and Manner as well as the Speech Acts: Locutionary Act, Illocutionary Act, Perlocutionary Act and Maxims of Politeness. This course also deals with the application pragmatic knowledge, teaches how to make use of these in ELT classroom and focuses on the preparation of materials for the teaching of utterances in appropriate contexts.
