This course examines both responses to crime and the characteristics of the criminal justice system, its various components and current challenges, stressing efforts at prevention, community involvement, and alternatives in corrections and draws on the correlation between law and social work. In focusing on the interaction of the disciplines of social work and law, we may consider legal requirements related to crime and delinquency, child welfare, domestic violence, youth justice, issues of diversity, social justice /injustice as well as the regulation of social work practice and the impact of law on social work ethics.
