In this course, the following topics are covered: epidemiology, importance and classification of diabetes, roles and responsibilities of diabetes nurse and team approach, diagnosis classification and follow-up principles in diabetes, physiology and glucose metabolism of diabetes, pathophysiological process, defining the signs and symptoms of diabetes, carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism disorders in diabetes, medical nutrition in diabetes management and healthy eating approaches, diabetes and exercise, physiological effects of insulin, treatment and method, oral antidiabetic treatment, self-monitoring, acute complications of diabetes (diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar nonketotic coma, hypoglycemia), chronic complications of diabetes (nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy, diabetic foot), individual nursing care of the diabetic, diabetes education, counseling in diabetes, psychosocial aspects of diabetes, prevention strategies in diabetes.
