This course will give students practical instruction in
conducting interviews for a variety of media work, both face-to-face and using
the telephone or other telecommunications technology. Weekly classes will focus
on the primary techniques and professional practices entailed in the process of
interviewing for newspaper, radio and television production. Students will also
reflect on the ethical dimensions of the media interview. The course will also
feature contributions from local professional journalists who have experience
as interviewers. Students will conduct and present original interviews with a
variety of subjects, which will be examined and assessed via a portfolio of
written work.
