In
this course, it is aimed to introduce "scientific illustration",
which is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of art and science. In
this course, students learn the basic principles of creating effective
illustrations to communicate scientific observations and data. It will mainly
focus on creating the best images for use in research, teaching, journal
publications, presentations, and other applications. Basic topics of this
course include areas of scientific illustration, methods used, scientific
lighting, composition, measurement methods, nature logging, accurate visual
note-taking, simple drawing techniques, and observation skills development.
Students present the observation book at the end of the semester, which
includes the observation, measurement, and drawing skills they have gained
during the semester, as well as their sketches.
