This course will focus on Turkish mythology (human, creation, religious rituals and festivals, etc.), mythological elements in Turkish Folk Music repertoire, music types existing in Turkish state and communities, Turkish Folk Music in historical process and the development of Turkish Art Music; the interaction of different traditions and styles of music; musicians, composers, performers and sample works. The course also covers basic concepts such as elegize, principles, sound system, intervals, and learning of melodic structures specific to Turkish music. The basic practices of music such as reading, dictation and deciphering are shown. Usual structures (master molds and sounds) will be taught by applying on the kudum.
