This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of risk management and insurance and their application to individuals, businesses, and financial decision-making. The course examines the identification, measurement, and treatment of risk; the role and operation of insurance markets; insurance contracts and pricing; and major forms of life, health, property, and liability insurance.
Particular emphasis is placed on understanding how insurance functions as a risk-transfer mechanism and how individuals and organizations can integrate insurance with broader risk-management strategies. Students will also develop practical skills in evaluating risk exposures, comparing alternative risk-treatment techniques, and analyzing insurance decisions.
