The aim of this course is to familiarize students with different types of English spoken in the world and with cultural characteristics reflected in different varieties of English. The emphasis is placed on phonological, lexical, grammatical, semantic and pragmatic differences in the use of English in different societies. This course covers the following topics: The use of English as an international language, the different uses of English and English as a common language; how the use of English as an international language is reflected on English education and teacher education; the development of consciousness of the students towards the relationship between language and culture, and the examination of the place of culturally language teaching; examining textbooks, literary works, films, TV programs and advertisements and the evaluation of cultural objects 

The aim of this course is to enable students   to evaluate   course books. Students will be able to identify what the essential features of a good English textbook are and know how to make use of a checklist to evaluate an English book. Several sample textbooks will be studied and examined to find out whether they are designed in line with traditional methods of teaching or communicative approaches. This course focuses on the essential qualities of a textbook such as physical, educational qualities, visual design and language use and meeting required standards. the appropriateness of the contents of the textbooks to the curriculum; the features of some of the existing textbooks such as, language, suitability to students’ level, format, attractiveness, contribution to meaningful learning, ease of use in teaching, etc. 

Bu derste, dil öğretimindeki yeni gelişmeler, bu gelişmelerin dil öğretimine ve öğrenimine etkisi, yeni yaklaşımlara göre ders etkinlikleri ele alınacaktır. Öğrencilerde, teknolojik gelişmelerin yabancı dil öğretimine etkisi konusunda farkındalık yaratılacak ve öğrencilerim yeni yaklaşımlara göre ders planlaması yapabileceklerdir. İngiliz Dili Öğretiminde ders tasarımı, ikinci/yabancı/uluslararası/özel amaçlı/ akademik dil olarak İngilizce gibi farklı öğrenci ihtiyacına uygun yaklaşımlar; yapılandırmacı yaklaşım, içerik odaklı, görev odaklı, sorun odaklı, bütünce odaklı dil öğretimi, çoklu zekâ ve bütüncül dil yaklaşımı gibi güncel uygulamalar; ikinci/yabancı dil öğretimi ve dil öğretiminde kültürün önemi, teknolojinin dil sınıflarında kullanımı, gelişen dünyada iletişimin yeri ve kültürler arası etkileşim  gibi konular dersin içeriğini oluşturacaktır.

This course aims to provide a comprehensive theoretical review on the process of foreign or language learning and teaching with special emphasis on the research studies that focus on different factors (language, brain, mind, self, and culture) involved in an individual's attempt in learning a foreign or second language.
