This course introduces some popular molecular graphics systems that allow for the visualization, animation, editing, and publication-quality imagery of proteins. It focuses on hands-on experience in the classroom and builds solid skills in visually investigating the 3D molecular structures of proteins and their interactions with each other and with ligands such as substrates and drugs. The course also explores the importance of protein sequence and structure alignment programs in revealing evolutionary relationships between proteins. Finally, it emphasizes the use of computational tools for predicting the effects of amino acid substitutions on protein structure and function as well as classifying mutations as deleterious or benign.

This course is designed to provide students a basic knowledge about inherited metabolic disorders. The course aims to gain the students the knowledge necessary to understand the cause and effect relationship between genetic mutations and molecular basis of diseases. The course covers all clinically important metabolic pathways such as amino acid, nucleotide, urea cycle disorders, galactosemia/galactosuria, glycogen and lysosomal storage diseases. Phenylketonuria (PKU), Maple Syrup Disease, Ornithine Transcarbamoylase Deficiency, UDP-Galactose-4 Epimerase Deficiency (GALE), Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome, von Gierke’s Disease, McArdle’s Disease, Tays-Sachs Disease are included in this course. This course also focuses on the analytical and diagnostic tools using to reveal molecular markers of these diseases. This course consists of lectures enriched with cases and case discussion.

Early Observation of Clinics is designed to introduce medical students to fundamental clinical and professional competencies through structured observation and supervised clinical practice. This course focuses on the development of effective patient-physician communication, essential clinical skills, and early exposure to real-world healthcare environments.
Students will actively engage in supervised clinical settings, where they will practice fundamental skills such as patient history-taking, basic physical examination techniques, and vital sign measurement. Through direct observation and guided interactions, they will develop a professional approach to patient care, refine their communication skills, and gain insight into the responsibilities of a physician. Simulated patient encounters and structured role-playing exercises will further reinforce their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical clinical contexts.
The primary objective of this course is to equip students with the foundational skills, professional attitudes, and ethical principles necessary for competent and compassionate medical practice. By integrating experiential learning with structured clinical exposure, Early Observation of Clinics provides a critical introduction to the practical aspects of medical training and the physician’s role in patient care.

The Cardiovascular and
Respiratory Systems module aims to describe the organization of the
cardiovascular and respiratory systems, their structures and functions. The
students will be able to name the organs forming the respiratory passageway
from the nasal cavity to the alveoli of the lungs. The circulatory and the
respiratory system work closely to ensure that the organ tissues receive enough
oxygen and the students will learn about the biochemistry of these two systems’
mechanism. Mechanism of gas exchange, respiratory volumes and capacity, respiratory
resistance and also thermodynamics will be taught in this module.
