This course is designed for interior design students to give them knowledge on professional approach to interior design of domestic and public spaces based on the following characteristics of space designed: geometric, functional, structural and visual properties of interior architectural space, furniture and equipment layouts approach, access and circulation, finishing materials with their color, pattern and texture, structural solutions in interior spaces. Comprehensive consideration of interior details with the emphasis on structural solutions, feasibility, and materials used. Interior design students are expected to deal with detailing and implementation of principles for wooden door and window frames, floor finishing, ceiling and interior/exterior wall claddings, and partition system besides the detailing of interior finish systems, such as finish materials, window treatments, light fixture and furniture.

This course intends to clarify the following questions: What is a trademark? How and why is it registered? What is an invention? Patents and utility models. What is a design? How is it protected? Intellectual property, artistic property and copyrights. Design law in practice in TRNC, Turkey and EU. Comprehension of ethical issues in design practice, ability to make firm planning and positioning, competence of managing the business’s finances; preparing design contracts and product pricing, proficiency of dealing with human resources; contracts; agreement with clients; marketing and outreach. Protection of trademarks, designs, and inventions by licence. Design piracy prohibition and related acts. Studies on detail processing, specification writing, surveying and building codes, cost analysis. Working out diagrams, charts and matrices.

Conceptual definitions and terminologies for understanding the theory of conservation. Historical approaches towards developing the theory of conservation. Basic concepts in architectural field. Types of cultural and historic heritage; architectural buildings, archaeological sites, historic area (historic urban quarter and village core). Contemporary international regulations; accepted principles, charters and declarations. The importance of recording and documentation. Conservation and the unity of style; destruction for the sake of restoration and the anti-restoration theory. Analytical approach towards the structures and the original materials. Authenticity, changing criteria and concept of authenticity in architectural conservation; adaptive re-use of the traditional buildings with emphasis on predetermined revitalization approaches. Conservation, revitalization and design in historic environment (urban conservation). Encouragement of public participation. Course complies with ARCH 532 Theory of Conservation.

The aim of this course is to improve the skills of students in modeling and solving real life problems in the mathematical programming and optimization. Both deterministic and stochastic models are considered. The course objective is to study the mathematical programming techniques ,to develop various and complex models on the real-world situations, to give an invaluable skill that will help students in other courses and in the workplace.

This course develops further knowledge of the grammar and of essential vocabulary in order to lead the students to a pre-intermediate level of proficiency. Also, emphasis is placed on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through an integrated approach; Students will participate in conversations by using the acquired vocabulary on familiar topics like family life, school subjects and education. Moreover, students are introduced to affirmative, negative sentences and questions in the Present Simple, Present Continuous and Past Simple Tenses. They will make reservations, ask for information and have daily conversations on the phone. By exposing students to a wide variety of reading passages, they will acquire adequate practice in scanning to find information from texts and guess meaning from context.

This course is the
continuation of INGL221. The emphasis is placed on developing listening,
speaking, reading and writing skills through an integrated approach. Students
will participate in conversations by using the acquired vocabulary on movies,
travelling, holidays, weddings, and food. Moreover, the students will revise
present simple, present continuous and past simple tenses and they will be also
introduced prepositions of time, future tenses and comparatives. By the end of
the course, the students will be able to tell stories, make invitations, suggestions
and requests, and describe their travels and holidays. It aims at exposing
students to a wide variety of reading passages, providing them with adequate
practice in scanning to find information from texts, guessing meaning from
context, and critical thinking.
Each week, students will be asked to formulate a research question by narrowing down the broader issue under discussion. The knowledge gained, along with the writing and research skills developed in this course, will equip students with the tools needed to analyze political issues and assist them in writing their thesis.
There is no specific textbook for the course. Reading materials, if any, will be announced weekly throughout the semester. Students are free to choose what they read on the assigned topic, provided they use academic and reputable sources (see below).

This course serves as an introduction to the basic component of information systems, hardware, software, data, people and networks. Topics covered includes computer networks and communications, systems and application software, computer hardware and its operation, the internet and the world wide web, algorithms, pseudocodes and flowchart. After the completion of the course, students will be able to differentiate between various operating systems and application programs. They will be able to identify computer tools that can be used to assist with various common computer applications. They will also gain the fundamental understanding of the history and operation of computers, programming, and web design.
