Molecular microbiology and microbial pathogenesis course involves oral presentation and discussion of current research articles on pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi). The cellular and molecular basis of host-pathogen interactions at the structure function level will be discussed. Particular attention will be paid on approaches for pathogenesis, antimicrobials and anti-virulence factors for various microbial infections. Emphasis will be placed on understanding experimental techniques and design of future experiments in the areas covered. Students are expected to prepare articles, to participate actively in discussion, and to design specific aims for one related research project. Critical thinking skills are a special point of attention in this course where students are encouraged to think critically about experimental approaches as well as controls.

This course comprises necessary information on natural products mainly from plants. The chemistry and production of natural products which include main active constituents such as carbohydrates, alkaloids, glycosides and volatile oil will be studied. Detailed information will also be given some widely used phytopharmaceuticals mainly for the treatment of gastrointestinal, nervous, respiratory and endocrine system disordes. Classification of plant originated crude drugs according to the chemical structure of active constituents will be given in this course.

PSCI623, CHRONOBIOLOGY AND CHRONOPHARMACOLOGY MOODLE PAGE.

Qualifying exam comprises of the students carrying out thorough research on their topic of interest in collaboration with their advisors and then defending their proposed research in front of a steering committee.

Seminar course provides the students with the opportunity to carry out thorough research on their topic of interest.  They are expected to familiarize and critically read/evaluate the published research in their field of interest. Students will gain critical thinking skills and carry out presentations throughout the seminar course, allowing widening of their perspectives in their and related scientific branches.
