Building elements are required to perform their primary function within the required lifespan. However, building elements are exposed and affected by the environmental conditions. Weather resistance, thermal behavior, fire resistance, acoustic behavior and structural performances are characteristics which will be analyzed. Climatic conditions such as solar cycle, solar radiation and energy, environmental degradation such as air, water, soil pollution, and the element and material characteristics such as insulation, heat transmittance, and degradation are considered parameters. Service Life Prediction (SLP) examines desired performances with the acceptable maintenance cost. The aim of the course is to examine the building elements and environmental impacts by systematic approaches of Service Life Prediction, Life Cycle Assessment and Building Performance Evaluation in terms of sustainable building.
