Faculty of Medicine Phase (Year) II, Committee II: Blood and the Lymphatic System

This course is planned for the dentistry faculty students. In this course students will learn the basics of microbiology, microorganisms and it will be mostly based on oral health. Students must categorize the types, subtypes and taxonomy of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) while understanding their structures and life cycles. The pathogen-host interplay must be studied in detail with relation to pathogenic virulence factors, immune evasion mechanisms of pathogens, microbiotal competition and immune development. The types of innate and adaptive immune cells must be detailed, while understanding their specific effector functions during the cellular immune response to invading pathogens. Antigenic structures, antigen presentation, immune cell priming and immunoglobulin types and effector mechanisms must be understood. The concept of immunological memory and vaccination strategies must be comprehended. Antibiotics, their mechanisms of action, microbial resistance to antibiotics (together with resistance testing experiments) must be studied. Primary and acquired immunodeficiencies and the subsequent susceptibility of hosts must be understood. Immunological and molecular techniques must be researched.


Hücre ve dokuların histolojik özellikleri anlatılacaktır. Hücre membranı, sitoplazmasının yapısı, hücre organelleri ve dinamikleri, histokimyasal teknikler, epitel doku, bez epiteli, bağ ve destek doku, kan doku, kıkırdak doku, kemik doku, lenfoid doku, kas doku, sinir doku, ve deri histolojisi incelenecektir.


Histological properties of cells and tissues will be discussed. Cell membranes, cytoplasmic structure, cellular organelles and dynamics, histochemical techniques, epithelial tissue, glandular epithelia, connective tissue, blood, cartilage and bone, lymphoid tissue, muscle tissue, nervous tissue and skin histology will be covered

Temel İmmünolojinin esasları,  immün sistemin yapısal özellikleri, doğal ve kazanılmış bağışıklık süreçleri, İmmün süreçlere katılan hücre ve organlar, Antijen ve antikorların kimyasal yapısı ve etkileşimleri, kompleman sistemi ve aktivasyonu, hücresel ve hümoral immünite oluşumu ve özellikleri, doğal fizyolojik ve biyolojik immün bariyerler, oral mukozanın savunma mekanizmaları, Tükürük ve dişeti oluğu sıvısının oral dokuların savunmasındaki rolü, Periodontal hastalıklarda ve çürük gelişimindeki hücresel ve hümoral immün yanıtın rolü, Pulpaya antijenlerin girişi, tanınması, oral mukozanın immünolojik hastalıkları ve antioksidanların oral dokuların savunmasına etkileri.

Topics covered include the principles of immunology, structural functions and organization of the immune system, innate and adaptive immunity, immune cells and organs, antigens and antibodies, the complement system and its activation, cellular and humoral immunity and their properties, natural physiological barriers and biological immune barriers, oral mucosal immunity, saliva and gingical sulvus fluid defense mechanisms, Periodontal diseases, tooth decay and the related cellular and humoral immune response, entry and detection of antigens in the Pulpa, oral mucosal immunopathology and the role of antioxidants in oral tissues
