This course is the second course in a two-course sequence to assist the student in meeting course objectives. Emphasis is placed on skills and concepts related to medical-surgical nursing, such as maintenance of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, elimination and metabolic functioning for the complex medical/surgical patient. Students will integrate the practice of caring with the knowledge of human behavior to implement health promotion and teaching strategies, problem solve, priority set and coordinate care for complex medical/surgical patients. Additionally the course provides an understanding of the scientific basis for new technologies used to evaluate at risk and high-risk cases for use in comprehensive complex care management.
The clinical component further prepares students in understanding and developing the nurse’s roles and responsibilities; management and evaluation of physical, emotional, socio-cultural and educational needs.
