This is an introduction course in
interpretation skills. The aim of this course is to develop students’ skills in
interpretation in various fields and scenes. This course also serves as the final preparation for entry
into the profession at a distinguished level through development of career
portfolio to meet summative degree requirement and development of strategies
for gaining work as a professional translator. This course also prepares
students for area degree examinations and employer tests by reviewing previous
exam materials and employer testing requirements. The interpreter translates the message in the
target-language as quickly as he or she can formulate it from the source
language, while the source-language speaker continuously speaks. In the ideal
setting for oral language, the interpreter sits in a sound-proof booth and
speaks into a microphone, while clearly seeing and hearing the source-language
speaker via earphones
