Comparative language studies is designed for students who have a strong interest in acquiring specialized skills in foreign languages. The development of a comparative understanding of modern foreign language structures is essential for translation. Familiarity with major literary works of the languages is important in order to understand the contexts of texts that will be translated, especially literary works. The term comparative language or comparative linguistics refers to the analysis of different language systems in order to determine their histories, evolutions and interconnections. As a comparative language student, you'll study ancient texts, manuscripts and other direct source materials. By comparing languages from different regions, you may draw conclusions about history, religion and population migration, among other cultural factors.

Bu ders, film çevirisi ve alt yazı üzerine vurgu yaparak
görsel-işitsel çeviri için bir giriş niteliği taşımaktadır. Kurs, dört ana
türden film çevirisini kısaca tanıtır: dublaj, seslendirme, altyazı ve
simultane çeviri. Kurs, film çevirisi ve altyazı ile ilgili bazı temel soruları
yanıtlamaya çalışır: Neden filmler altyazılara ihtiyaç duyar? Hangi ülkeler
altyazıları dublajdan daha fazla kullanma eğiliminde? Hangisi daha pahalı?
Dublaj mı, altyazı mı? Görsel-işitsel çeviri (ve özellikle altyazı) çok yakın zamana
kadar translatoloji uzmanları tarafından ihmal edilen çeviri çalışmalarının bir
dalıdır. Bu marjinalleşmenin bir sonucu olarak, hiçbir altyazı aslında işin

This is an introduction course in
interpretation skills. The aim of this course is to develop students’ skills in
interpretation in various fields and scenes. This course also serves as the final preparation for entry
into the profession at a distinguished level through development of career
portfolio to meet summative degree requirement and development of strategies
for gaining work as a professional translator. This course also prepares
students for area degree examinations and employer tests by reviewing previous
exam materials and employer testing requirements. The interpreter translates the message in the
target-language as quickly as he or she can formulate it from the source
language, while the source-language speaker continuously speaks. In the ideal
setting for oral language, the interpreter sits in a sound-proof booth and
speaks into a microphone, while clearly seeing and hearing the source-language
speaker via earphones

ve sunum becerilerini keskinleştirerek son derece profesyonel bir seviyeye
kadar simültane çeviri becerilerini geliştirmek için tasarlanmıştır. Bu sayede,
öğrenciye nüans, ton ve üslupla özel dikkat gerektiren son derece karmaşık
malzemeler yorumlanabilir. Ders metinle simultane bir şekilde yorumlamayı
sağlar. Eğitmen ve akran geribildirimi sayesinde, öğrenciler, metin geliştirme
ile birlikte ve metin olmadan eşzamanlı yorumlama becerilerinizi etkileyen
faktörler hakkındaki genel anlayışlarını geliştirecek ve uygun uygulama
stratejileri geliştireceklerdir. Öğrenciler, uygun stil, kayıt ve teslimatı
sürdürürken, 30 dakikaya kadar uzatılmış geçişleri doğru ve eksiksiz olarak
yorumlamak için gerekli konsantrasyon yeteneğini geliştireceklerdir. Standtaki
ekip çalışması ve mikrofon tekniğine özel ilgi gösteriliyor. Konu ve
terminoloji hazırlama becerileri, uzmanlık konularının, sözlüklerin ve yazılı
konuşmaların hazırlanması yoluyla geliştirilir. Öğrenci performansı,
Tercümanlık Temelleri'nde tanıtılan kalite değerlendirme kavramlarına dayanarak
tartışılmaktadır. Uzman eleştirisi içeren alıştırmalarla yapıcı geribildirim
uygulanır.
This course will introduce students to the
craft of literary translation and the many ways it can help them become better
writers. Students will work individually and together to choose authors not yet
known in English whose work strikes the students as exciting and innovative.
We’ll discuss how the process of choosing an author and bringing that author’s
work into English is a way to explore what makes a piece of writing
distinctive. We'll look at aspects such as tone, humor and innovative plotting
techniques and explore how students might experiment in similar ways with these
aspects in their own work. Over the course of the semester, we’ll workshop
translations together with original writing and also look at the work of
various leading writer – translators and discuss the connections between the
authors these writers have translated and the innovations in their own poetry
and prose.

Bu dersin temel amacı, öğrencilere bankacılık hizmetleri ve bankacılık organizasyon yapılarına giriş niteliğinde ve kapsamlı bir genel bakış sağlamaktır. Öğrenciler ayrıca banka ekstresi analizi ve performans ölçümünü de incelemelidir. GAP ve SÜRE analizi gibi varlık ve borç yönetimi becerileri de bu dersin öğretme ve öğrenme hedeflerinden biridir.
Bu ders, adadaki mevcut politik ve ekonomik duruma dair eleştirel bir değerlendirme sunmasının yanında, bu durumu hazırlayan geniş tarihsel çerçeveyi çizmek adına, 19. Yüzyılın sonundan itibaren gerçekleşen ekonomik, sosyal ve siyasal gelişmeleri de ele almaktadır. Dersin temel odak noktasını Kıbrıs sorunu oluşturmakta, bu bağlamda, sorunun gelişimi ve bunun yanında, bu sorunu sona erdirmeye (ya da devamını sağlamaya) yönelik uluslararası ve yerel aktörlerin oynadığı rol incelenmektedir. Bu, multidisipliner bir yaklaşım ve milliyetçilik, çatışma çözümü, uluslararası hukuk, jepolitik, siyasal patronaj ve postkolonyalizm gibi farklı teorik çerçevelerin kullanımını gerektirmektedir. Dersin sonunda, öğrencilerden Kıbrıs siyasetine dair kendi seçecekleri spesifik bir konuda bir literatür taraması sunması beklenmektedir.
