This
course aims to develop students' knowledge of theories in marketing. The perspective
in this course is that marketing does not depend on a pure or single
disciplinary base. Instead, it may be regarded as an applied social science or
synthetic discipline in the original sense of the process or result of building
up separate elements, especially ideas, into a connected whole or into a theory
or system. It follows that if one wishes to be qualified to practice the
profession of marketing then one should know and understand the sources of the
original ideas and theories on which it is founded. The course focuses on essential
theories in marketing. The course has a theoretical approach rather than being descriptive
or normative.

The method of econometric research aims, essentially, at a conjunction of economic theory and actual measurements, using the theory and technique of statistical inference as a bridge pier. Econometrics is an amalgam of economic theory, mathematical economics, economic statistics, and mathematical statistics. Economic theory makes statements or hypotheses that are mostly qualitative in nature. For example, the microeconomic theory states that other things remaining the same, a reduction in the price of a commodity is expected to increase the quantity demanded of that commodity. But the theory itself does not provide any numerical measure of the relationship between the two. It is the job of the econometrician to provide such numerical estimates. Stated differently, econometrics gives empirical content to most economic theories.
The main concern of mathematical economics is to express economic theory in mathematical form (equations) without regard to measurability or empirical verification of the theory. Econometrics, as noted previously, is mainly interested in the empirical verification of the economic theory.
Economic statistics is mainly concerned with collecting, processing, and presenting economic data in the form of charts and tables. These are the jobs of the economic statistician. But the economic statistician does not go any further, not being concerned with using the collected data to test economic theories. Of course, one who does that becomes an econometrician.
Although mathematical statistics provides many tools used in the trade, the econometrician often needs special methods in view of the unique nature of most economic data, namely, that the data are not generated as the result of a controlled experiment. The econometrician, like the meteorologist, generally depends on data that cannot be controlled directly.
In econometrics the modeler is often faced with observational as opposed to experimental data. This has two important implications for empirical modeling in econometrics. First, the modeler is required to master very different skills than those needed for analyzing experimental data. . . . Second, the separation of the data collector and the data analyst requires the modeler to familiarize himself/herself thoroughly with the nature and structure of data in question

The course "Drawing and Clay Modeling" offers a dynamic exploration of artistic expression using two diverse mediums: drawing and clay modeling. Students commence their artistic journey by engaging in a range of sketching tasks, refining their abilities to accurately depict shapes, textures, and viewpoints. By utilizing these sketches as a creative basis, pupils subsequently develop their ultimate ideas for clay sculpting.
Through the translation of their drawings into conceptual concepts, students initiate the process of converting their thoughts into physical clay artworks. Utilizing their recently acquired expertise in clay sculpting, they painstakingly transform their concepts into tangible creations, integrating intricate elements, textures, and three-dimensional shapes.
The lesson focuses on the interdependent connection between drawing and clay modeling. Drawing serves as the trigger for the process of ideation, while clay serves as the medium through which these ideas materialize into exceptional sculptures. The process of moving from first ideas to the final clay sculptures facilitates a thorough comprehension of form, composition, and the profound ability of artistic expression to bring about change.

Western Legal Thought-I presents a study of different epochs that shaped European legal thinking. The course traces the historical development of legal concepts by taking into account contributions of various scholars, ranging from philosophers, theologians, and jurists, to legal theory. The course begins with a particular focus on ancient Greek contributions to ideas of justice and systems of government. It then shifts onto the Roman era and its civil law tradition which comprises the foundation of continental legal systems today. Through a study of the early and the high middle ages, the course concludes by regarding the humanist and the secularist legacy of Renaissance and Reformation upon Western legal theory.
Civil rights are important components of democracy and the principle of rule of law. When individuals are being denied opportunities to participate in political society, they are being denied their civil rights. The core mission of this course is to deliver practice-relevant information to the community of lawyers who represent plaintiffs and defendants in lawsuits implicating civil rights in front of international mechanisms. As it is very well known, civil rights are the guarantees of equal social opportunities and equal protection under the law, regardless of race, religion, or other personal characteristics. Examples of civil rights include very important and essential rights such as the right to vote, the right to a fair trial, the right to government services, the right to a public education, and the right to use public facilities.
Children have constitutional, civil and human rights, and
have been recognized (for the last 36 years) as legal persons. Yet
increasingly, youngsters find themselves in courts in America where legal
determinations are made which directly affect their liberty, custody, family
membership, education, and health. Children are involved in legal proceedings
involving adoption, school expulsion, asylum, gang activities, speech,
disability benefits, labor, mental health, trafficking and domestic violence,
as well as delinquency and crime. The criminalization of youth behavior and the
transformation of the landscape inhabited by children (schools, family,
neighborhoods, work) results in expanded nets of law enforcement, punishment,
incarceration, probation, rules and scrutiny. Troubled kids, troubling kids,
different kids, bad girls, gangstas, inner-city kids, kids of color, immigrant
kids -- for many, delinquency trumps. In this course, we will examine the
changing constructions of childhood reflected in the law, using the casebook by
Barry Feld, Administration of Juvenile Justice, with bound supplemental
materials from literature, the arts, and social sciences. The class will
analyze critical constitutional rights case law, case studies, and potential
legal remedies through the contending themes of children's rights, children's
participation, child protection, social control and punishment.
This course focuses upon theoretical perceptions of society and how these perceptions contribute to one's understanding of law and its role within society. The course traces classical approaches to society and law by focusing on works of Marx, Weber and Durkheim. These approaches broadly incorporate different takes on economy's role in determining the function of law within societies. In the second part of the course, liberal perspectives on society is contrasted with accounts that challenge the liberal and the democratic outlook. The course delineates problematic aspects of these challenges and then moves onto consider the postmodern schools of thought. By adopting a critical outlook and by questioning conventional wisdom readily accepted heretofore, the postmodern approach rejects normative narratives and opens room for the rethinking of societal concepts and law's changing relation with such concepts.

Comparative language studies is designed for students who have a strong interest in acquiring specialized skills in foreign languages. The development of a comparative understanding of modern foreign language structures is essential for translation. Familiarity with major literary works of the languages is important in order to understand the contexts of texts that will be translated, especially literary works. The term comparative language or comparative linguistics refers to the analysis of different language systems in order to determine their histories, evolutions and interconnections. As a comparative language student, you'll study ancient texts, manuscripts and other direct source materials. By comparing languages from different regions, you may draw conclusions about history, religion and population migration, among other cultural factors.
